The Passport for Your Palate Cook-Along Series is a monthly culinary demonstration that tours the cuisines of DC's diverse residents. with BYRD'S NEST BOX. On the fourth Monday of each month, join us at Kenilworth Recreation Center's Demonstration Kitchen and learn how to prepare an authentic dish from chefs leading some of DC's immigrant-owned businesses.

Welcome to The Community Garden! Woody Ward's communal garden program gives residents the opportunity to grow and learn in a shared space, which will ensure each gardener and garden plot receives adequate support. We plan to start a free vegetable giveaway that will also provide fresh fruits and vegetables to the community.

Department of Parks and Recreation started the Seed Subscription Box in 2020 during the global pandemic. During this time, seed companies globally struggled to keep up with the demand of seeds from a flux of new home gardeners. A national seed shortage resulted. In response to this problem, DPR started the Seed Subscription Box series, a free monthly subscription of seeds and select gardening supplies for DC residents to pick up at rotating DPR facilities. Seed Subscription Boxes include seasonal seed packets, a bag of potting soil, a growing container and information on how to save seeds at home. From March 25 - April 24, registrants can pick up their Seed Subscription Box from Lederer Gardens M-F from 8:00am to 2:00pm.

Kayak 101:

Kayaking 101 is an 8 week course in which students will learn paddling fundamentals, trip preparation, safe practices, and safe exits/reentering techniques from shallow and deep water. Perfect for any season, kayaking is a wonderful hobby that’s great for physical fitness and overall wellbeing.

Cultivate creativity, curiosity, & settle into the restorative power of making art in Lederer Gardens. This program is family-friendly; all youth ages 14 and under should be accompanied by their caregiver(s). Art workshops are led by Ebony Marshman, in partnership with The River Seed School; all supplies are provided and art instruction varies per session.

Join DPR to see stars, planets and other deep space objects through telescopes and binoculars in the Harriet Tubman Sky Gazing Club. Free to the public, this monthly series is ideal for beginners and families. Sessions take place outdoors in DPR parks. This event is appropriate for all ages and contingent upon weather conditions. Some telescopes and binoculars will be provided for shared usage. We encourage participants to bring your own telescopes or binoculars, if possible.
