Learn to Swim for Senior Level I:Students will learn how to feel comfortable in the water and safely enjoy it.
Prerequisites: None

To maintain social distance class capacities have been reduced. Masks are required outside of the water. Appropriate swim attire is required.

Objectives:
• Enter and exit water using ladder, steps or side
• Blow bubbles through mouth and nose
• Bobbing
• Open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects
• Front and back glides and back float
• Recover to vertical position from a front glide and back
• Combined arm and leg actions on front with alternating arm action, 2 body lengths
• Front crawl, 15 yards
• Combined arm and leg actions on front with simultaneous arm action (modified breaststroke), 2 body lengths
• Breaststroke, 15 yards
• Elementary backstroke, 15 yards
• Scissors kick, 15 yards

Learn to Senior Swim Level II gives participants practice with the fundamental skills learned in level I.
Prerequisite: Successful demonstration of Level 1 skills. ADVISED TO GET LEVEL READY TESTED BY A SWIM INSTRUCTOR.

• Stepping from the side into chest-deep
water.
• Moving into a front float for 5 seconds,
rolling to back, floating for 5 seconds
then recovering to a vertical position.
• Moving into a back float for 5 seconds,
rolling to front then recovering to a
vertical position.
• Pushing off and swimming using
combined arm and leg actions on front
for 5 body lengths, rolling to back,
floating for 15 seconds, rolling to the
front then continue swimming for 5
body lengths.
IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT PARTICIPANTS HAVE THEIR SKILL LEVEL ASSESSED AT A DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION FACILITY BEFORE ENROLLING IN A CLASS. ANY PARTICIPANTS ENROLLED IN THE INCORRECT SKILL LEVEL WILL BE DROPPED FROM THE COURSE.

This class is a full body cardiovascular strengthening work out for Seniors. It is designed to challenge participants and improve fitness all while having fun in the water. The program can be modified for different levels, body types or specific needs and accommodations.

PLEASE NOTE: This course, offered in partnership with University of D.C., Requires a current Body Wise membership with the UDC Office of Gerontology.

DPR brings you a senior water aerobics exercise program geared to help improve overall health and quality of life by improving strength, endurance, range of motion, balance and coordination in a low impact and shallow water aquatic setting. Can be low impact to include speed walking in shallow water.

For adult swimmers ages 18-99

This is our competitive swim team. Swimmers must be able to complete, a minimum, 25 yards of Freestyle using rhythmic side breathing, Backstroke, and either Breaststroke or Butterfly. All strokes will be fine-tuned by a Water Safety Certified Instructor!

This level focuses on stroke construction, stabilizing kicks, and aerobic system development.

Swimmers must attend a minimum of 2 practices per week and be able to attend competitions at least once per month, competition schedule permitting.

Minimum Training sets include:

4 x 25 Freestyle @ 1:00

4 x 25 Flutter Kick @ 1:20

Suggested Equipment:

Training: Mesh bag, Fins, Kickboard, 2 goggles, 2 caps, swimsuits

Have fun and get fit while learning the basic steps and techniques to the latest line dances.

By enrolling in one of the below leagues, you will be charged a team fee that will cover your full team of participants. Come one come all for seniors 55+. All levels welcome. We will divide players according to levels and do tennis specific drills to improve your game. You must bring your own tennis racquet and wear tennis shoes. NO RUNNING/JOGGING SHOES, SANDALS, ETC....

This program is designed to introduce seniors to the basics of using a computer and the internet.
