Engage young and adolescent girls in leisure, social, educational, and community service activities to help develop them into positive and productive young adults. Enhance the girls’ self-identity, self-esteem, character development, and reasoning/coping skills through positive influences and a myriad of program activities.

Registration is not required to attend our SPRING programs. We welcome ALL drop-ins.
This program helps to engage young men through leisure, social, educational, and community service experiences that will assist in leading positive and productive lives.

Below is the DC DPR Open Gym schedule. No registration needed; drop ins welcomed!

Open Gym is for all ages unless otherwise indicated.

Open Play. Players must bring their own paddles and pickleballs. Nets provided. Indoor doubles play. Players will rotate 4 on and 4 off after every game. Have fun!

Zumba is an aerobic fitness exercise that is a high-energy dance class that features intervals that help improve cardiovascular fitness while also enhancing balance, coordination, agility, and to some degree, strength. All fitness levels. Water, towel, supportive shoes, and full motion clothing are required.

The DC Department of Parks and Recreation’s (DPR) Afternoon Access program offers children a safe, supportive, and structured afterschool environment Monday through Friday for up to 3.5 hours. Activities provide quality recreational and cultural experiences that promote physical, intellectual, and emotional development. These activities include homework time, arts & crafts, sports & fitness, enrichment activities and much more! The daily schedule is designed to complement activities that children participate in at their schools and to strengthen their sense of belonging in their communities.

Classes emphasize the development of classical ballet skills with a focus on proper placement and alignment. Students will learn ballet vocabulary through center work while building strength and flexibility.

This class will provide students with individualized training in basic piano technique, musical notation, history, and culture. This course is designed to develop skills in a small group.

Chicken and Waffles is a safe place where youth can come and freely express their feelings to adults that genuinely care about their well-being. It is also a place where youth can find positive affirmation, constructive criticism, and tangible resources to assist in life development.

The Roving Leader Community Lab is a program that will foster positive relations between youth and the community through real life experiences.

Participants will explore various forms of visual and written art, to expand their range of coping skills and emotional expression to support mental health and wellbeing.

In this class, you will learn about Circuit Design Space using the “Circuit Explore Air 2” and how to cut your first project with the correct blade and mat. This class will help youth express their creativity thru art. They will be using the following materials to put their designs on T-shirt, canvas bags, face masks, mugs, card stock etc.

Little Chefs University is a children’s culinary program that teaches the joy of kitchen experimentation. Our kids’ cooking classes are unique and help them become experts in creating amazing meals. We encourage them to unleash their imaginations and curiosity in the kitchen, allowing them to appreciate a wide range of flavors and sensations. We prioritize kitchen safety and age-appropriate preparation methods, while also introducing young cooks to different utensils, appliances, and table etiquette.

Girls Who Code (GWC) Clubs are free extracurricular programs for 3rd-12th grade graders that teach participants about computer science (CS) in a fun and safe environment! GWC Clubs serve as a place (virtual included!) for students to spend time together while learning about CS and building their confidence. Clubs provide participants with a sisterhood of supportive peers and role models, and an opportunity to use their skills to positively impact their community. Clubs are hosted through non-profit locations, such as schools, libraries, and community centers and take place throughout the year. They are led by volunteer Facilitators, who use the curriculum and resources provided by GWC on our learning platform, HQ. The frequency and duration of meetings is determined by the Facilitator and Club members, though most Clubs meet weekly for 1-2 hours for at least 10 sessions.
