Do you have a child enthusiastic about swimming and learning what it takes to be a DPR Lifeguard?
The Junior Lifeguard Academy is perfect for them! Children ages 12 - 19 will be able to learn Life-Saving skills such as CPR/First Aid and Water Safety; Personal Development skills like Resume Building, Customer Service, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving in a fast-paced environment, Working in a Team Environment, Social skills, Effective Communication, and much more.
Prerequisite
In order to effectively participate they must have skills equivalent to our Learn to Swim Level III course. Skills include:
• Headfirst entry from the side in sitting and kneeling positions
• Bobbing while moving toward safety
• Rotary breathing
• Several types of floating positions
• Tread water
• Push off in a streamlined position then begin flutter and dolphin kicks on front
• Front crawl and elementary backstroke
• Scissors kick
Responsibilities:
Water Watching (Not official lifeguard duties)
Junior Lifeguard Game Participation
Understanding Lifeguard duties during facility operation
What To Bring:
Bathing Suit/Trunks
Googles
Cap
Towel
Water Bottle
Deck shoes
All participants will first complete an assessment to test their skills at a designated pool. Recommendations for the Academy and possibly Learn-to-Swim classes will be given!
