Preschool Aquatics: Level I at Deanwood Aquatic Center

Preschool Aquatics orientates preschool-age children to the aquatic environment and to help them acquire rudimentary levels of basic aquatic skills. These foundation skills, which can be performed with support at Level 1, are built upon on as they progress through the Preschool Aquatics and Learn-to-Swim levels. At this first level, children start developing positive attitudes and safe practices around the water.

(1) adult is allowed entry into the facility per (1) participant. To maintain social distance class capacities have been reduced and (1) Adult is required to be in the water with child participant. Masks are required outside of the water. Appropriate swim attire is required.

Learning Objectives:

• Enter water by stepping in
• Exit water using ladder, steps or side
• Bobbing
• Open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects
• Front and back floats and glides
• Recover from a front or back float or glide to a vertical position
• Roll from front to back and back to front
• Tread water using arm and leg actions
• Combined arm and leg actions on front and back or back
• Finning arm action on back
• Learn how to stay safe, including recognizing an emergency and knowing how to call for help Learn how to stay safe in, on and around the water, including the use of a life jacket, recognizing lifeguards

IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT PARTICIPANTS HAVE THEIR SKILL LEVEL ASSESSED AT A DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION FACILITY BEFORE ENROLLING IN A CLASS. ANY PARTICIPANTS ENROLLED IN THE INCORRECT SKILL LEVEL WILL BE DROPPED FROM THE COURSE.
