Learn to Swim Level ll: Students will learn basic swimming skills. Children begin to develop comfort in the water.
Prerequisites: Success in Learn to Swim Level 1
Objective:
• Enter and exit water by stepping or jumping from the side
• Fully submerge and hold breath
• Bob
• Open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects
• Variety of floating: front jellyfish tuck floats front: recover to a vertical position
• Front and back glide
• Change direction of travel while swimming on front or back
• Learn how to roll from front to back and back to front
• Enter water by stepping or jumping from the side into shoulder-deep water
• Rotary breathing, 15 times
• Swim underwater, 3 to 5 body lengths
• Feet first surface dive
• Front crawl, 50 yards
• Breaststroke, 50 yards
• Butterfly, 25 yards (optional)
• Elementary backstroke, 50 yards
• Back crawl, 25 yards
• Sidestroke, 25 yards
• Tread water
IT IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THAT PARTICIPANTS HAVE THEIR SKILL LEVEL ASSESSED AT A DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION FACILITY BEFORE ENROLLING IN A CLASS. ANY PARTICIPANTS ENROLLED IN THE INCORRECT SKILL LEVEL WILL BE DROPPED FROM THE COURSE
